CRE828 Workshops

At CRE828 we offer a variety of arts and crafts workshops from Acrylic Pours to Wreath Making.  You’ll find a list of the class descriptions below the workshop photos.

To schedule your workshop, simply decide which workshop you’d like to take, then email dawn@cre828.com or call 828.283.0523 to schedule your workshop.   I’ll create a workshop for one person,  but it’s much more fun to have a friend or two join you!  Artistic skill is not required:  all you need to bring is the fun!

Workshop Descriptions

Acrylic Pour

Acrylic Pouring is a fluid painting technique that creates amazing effects by incorporating additives to acrylic paint.

Flip Cup:  You will create a unique painting on an 8 x 10 canvas.  This painting will need to remain in the studio for a week to dry.  All materials will be provided.  Cost 65.00.*

Chain Pull:  Learn how to make flowers and ripples in fluid acrylic paint using a chain.  Participants will be provided 8 x 10 canvas and all necessary materials.  Painting will need to remain at the studio for a week to dry.  Cost 65.00.*

Clock: Learn how to create a unique clock using an album and acrylic pour techniques.  Painting will need to remain at the studio for a week to dry before attaching the clock parts.  75.00*

Alcohol Ink

Alcohol inks are fast-drying, highly pigmented inks that are ideal for creating art on any non-porous surfaces. They can be dripped, dropped, and layered onto the surface, then manipulated to create amazing effects. 

Artful Mug:  Learn how to make a gorgeous, unique mug with Alcohol Inks.  All materials are provided.  Cost 30.00.

Christmas Ornament:  Learn how to make beautiful stained glass-like ornaments with Alcohol Inks on glass ornaments.  All materials are provided.  Cost 40.00.

Country Christmas Ornaments: Make 3 unique “farm-style” Christmas ornaments.  You’ll learn how to make a variety of country style ornaments.  All materials are provided.  Cost 45.00

Painting on Yupo:  Learn how to layer inks on Yupo paper, manipulate them, dry them quickly, and then doodle on them to create one of a kind paintings.  All materials are provided.  Cost 55.00.

Tiles or Tile Ornaments  Learn the basics of working with Alcohol Inks on ceramic tiles.  You’ll learn how to use alcohol to make the inks more fluid, move the alcohol with air and seal your artwork.  All materials are provided.  Cost 40.00

Book Gnomes/Witches:  Create an adorable gnome or witch with a repurposed book. In this workshop you’ll learn how to use an old book to create the body for your doll.  Then you’ll learn how to create faces, hair, and accessories for your doll.  All materials are provided. Cost 55.00.

Crepe Paper Fairies/Angels: Create an elegant angel or fairy with crepe paper in this fun workshop. You’ll treasure this sweet angel for years to come. All materials are provided. Cost 55.00. (Approx. 7” tall.).

Crepe Paper Mini Flower Fairies:  You’ll cherish these little fairies as they will bloom for years to come.  Learn how to create the bodies with wire pipe cleaners, paint their faces, create crepe paper petals, and make fairy hair. All materials are provided. 40.00.

Sock/Cloth Gnomes: Create a delightful gnome made from socks, cloth and embellishments.  In this workshop you’ll create a gnome to match your unique personality. All materials are provided. 55.00

Jewelry

Bead Crochet:  Learn how to make a beaded crochet bracelet.  Techniques learned can also be applied to make necklaces.  All materials are provided.  50.00

Beaded Kumihimo Braid:  Learn how to make and finish a beaded kumihimo rope for a beautiful bracelet. Techniques learned can also be applied to make necklaces.  All materials are provided.  75.00 

Beaded Necklace:  Make your own unique bead necklace.  All materials are provided.  75.00.

Copper Cuff:  Learn how to create a copper cuff from copper tubing. You’ll learn how to shape the cuff, texture it and apply a patina.  All materials are provided.  Cost 90.00.

Domino Pendants:  More than just a game piece!  Domino’s are the perfect size and media for Alcohol Ink pendants.  In this workshop, you’ll create a variety of Alcohol Ink pendants on domino’s using different techniques.  You’ll then learn how to seal these pendants to give them a glass-like finish.  Add a bail and, finally, hang them on a necklace.  All materials for 3 pendants are provided for 35.00.

Fold Formed Copper Bracelet

Fold Formed Copper Bracelet:  Learn now to fold metal to create a unique rippled copper band.  Then, learn techniques to form a bracelet and attach two copper pieces together with rivets.  Finally, you’ll learn how to “color” your bracelet by applying different patinas.  All materials provided.  Student must be 16+. Cost 125.00.  This class is about 4 hours long.

Kumihimo Braid:  Learn how to make and finish a kumihimo rope for a beautiful bracelet.  Techniques learned can also be applied to make necklaces.  All materials are provided.  55.00 

Wire and Bead Bracelet:  Learn how to make a unique wire and bead bracelet.  All materials are provided. 55.00

Lampworking

Learn how to make glass beads using traditional lampworking (aka “flameworking”) techniques. 

Basic Beadmaking will teach you how to use a torch to melt and shape soft glass, shape the bead with a marver, strike glass, anneal the beads in a kiln and clean the beads. *This class is a prerequisite for all other classes.

Stringers & Dots will teach you how to pull stringers and use them for dots, stripes and swirls.

Advanced Stringer and Encasement will you advanced stringer work such as twisties, dot placement, encasement and reduction.

Shaping Glass will teach you techniques for creating shapes such as flowers, hearts and animals.

*Classes last approximately 2 hours.  Beads will be annealed overnight.  Student will arrange, before they leave, to come back to clean and pickup their beads.  Class is 4 hours long. Students must be 16+.  65.00 per class per student.  All materials are provided.

Macrame Mason Jar:  Learn how to make a macrame cover for a mason jar.  The end result makes a beautiful candle holder or can be used as a vase.  All materials are provided.  Cost 35.00.

Macrame Plant Hanger:  Love Plants?  Learn how to create a unique plant hanger with macrame.  With just a few different knots you’ll be able to create a beautiful and functional piece of art. Materials are provided for hanger (pot and plant not included).  40.00.

Macrame Tree of Life:  Learn how to make an enchanting macrame tree of life with swing inside a hoop.  All materials are provided.  50.00

Macrame Wall Hanging – Mini:  Learn how to make a small macrame wall hanging. All materials are provided.  30.00.

Macrame & Weave Wall Hanging:  Learn how to combine macrame and weaving techniques to create a unique wall hanging.  All materials are provided.  95.00. 

Micro Macrame Earrings:  Learn how to make a pair of micro-macrame earrings with beads.  All materials are provided.  50.00

Micro Macrame Pendant:  Learn how to create a beautiful pendant using fine thread, beads and macrame knots.  All materials are provided.  Color choices:  Pastels, Brights, Cool Blues, or Warm tones.  45.00.

Mixed Media & Art Journals

Art Journal Cover:  Are you ready to jump into art journaling?  This workshop will get you started by providing the materials and instruction needed to embellish your cover for your art journal.  All materials are provided – including the mixed media art journal.  50.00.

Art Journal Page:   Do you need a jumpstart to help your creative juices?  Then this workshop is for you.  You’ll be provided with prompts and ideas on creating your art journal pages.  You bring your own art journal and any materials you want.  There will also be materials available for use in your art journal.  20.00.

Ephemera: You’ve seen the embellishments (or ephemera) used to decorate junk journals.  Now find out how to make your own.  This workshop will teach you how to make a variety of altered paperclips, hidden paper clips, clusters, pockets and envelopes.  All materials are supplied.  Cost is 45.00

Junk Journal:  *NEW WORKSHOP* Don’t let the name fool you.  These little journals are a great way to creatively express yourself, while adding memories, photos, recipes, crafting ideas, journaling, etc. In addition to learning how to create a 5.75” x 4.5” journal with a variety of pockets and tags, you’ll learn how to create unique ephemera for your journal, such as altered paperclips, hidden paper clips, clusters, pockets, and envelopes.   When you preregister you should let Dawn know your theme choice from one of the following: Country Garden, Farm Life, Honey Bee, Vintage Birds, Ocean Wonders,  Crafters Journal, SteamPunk Travel, Winter Woodland Animals, Rustic Fall. All materials are provided. Cost is 75.00.

Mixed Media Canvas:  *NEW WORKSHOP*   You’ll combine paper, paint, texture and embellishments on a 5 x 7” canvas to express yourself while creating a one of a kind art piece.  All materials are provided. 65.00.

Mixed Media CD WorkshopCreate a unique Mixed Media Piece of Art on a CD.  All materials will be provided. 45.00

Mixed Media Hoop Workshop:  Create a unique Mixed Media Piece of Art on fabric and an embroidery hoop.  All materials will be provided. 45.00

Mixed Media Mini Tag Book:  Express yourself with a mixed media tag art journal.  We’ll start with some art journal prompts to get you started.  Then you’ll learn mixed media techniques to create your unique self-expression.  All materials are provided. 45.00.

Polymer Clay

Polymer clay is a modeling clay that can be used for a variety of crafts, including dolls, jewelry, and model animals.  It is not food safe and should not be used for anything that will be used to eat off of or drink.

Beads:  Learn how to make beautiful, unique beads with polymer clay, that can be cured in the oven. All materials will be supplied.  50.00.  Some of the techniques taught, depending on the class, are:

Paper Crafts

Cards:  Learn how to make a variety of cards in these cardmaking workshops.  All materials will be supplied.  $30.00.

Crepe Flowers Workshop:  Learn the art of making gorgeous crepe paper flowers.  You’ll learn how to make a couple different flowers for your own unique bouquet. All materials are provided.  45.00.

Punch Paper Flowers Workshop:  Learn the art of making paper flowers.  You’ll learn how to make five unique flowers using a paper punch.  All materials are provided.  40.00.

Quilling:   Learn the art of paper quilling.  In this workshop, you’ll learn how to make elegant, filigree designs using strips of paper, glue and simple tools.  All materials will be supplied.   40.00.

New Wreath Made in Workshop

Mesh Wreath: Make your own beautiful mesh wreath.  You’ll learn how to make a base that can be used for a variety of wreaths.  You’ll also learn some tips to embellishing wreaths.  All materials are included. $145.00

Frame Wreath:  Repurpose an old picture frame into a unique wreath for a door or wall.  In this workshop you’ll take a used picture frame, repaint it, and add decorations and a beautiful bow (you’ll learn how to make it!).  All materials are provided.  $65.00

Painting Personalized Projects

Workshops can be signs, rolling pins (regular or mini), mini cutting boards, and tote bags! Each workshop has lots of designs for you to choose from and can be personalized specifically for you.  

Fresh Flowers Sign:  Paint your “Fresh Cut Flowers” sign (approx. 16 x 8), then add paper flowers that you’ve created.  Choose your holder from the following option images: 1) vase, 2) mason jar, 2) cowboy boot, or 4) rainboot.  And choose your colors for your “fresh cut flowers” (2 each: rolled roses, rolled dahlia, and mums).  All materials are provided. 50.00.

Mason Jar Sign:  Paint your own personalized sign and attach a mason jar that can be used as a vase (for flowers, feathers, cotton, twigs), a candle holder or a catch-all.  All materials are provided. 40.00

Mini Cutting Board:  Personalize and Paint a mini cutting board (4” x 4”).  Perfect accessory for the kitchen.  All materials are provided. 30.00.  Combine this with the mini rolling pins for adorable tiered tray decorations.

Mini Rolling Pins:  These mini rolling pins are adorable sitting in a tray, or nested next to a mini cutting board.  Choose 3 5” or 2 7” rolling pins to personalize and decorate.  All materials are provided. 30.00
